ElSql - a Java Library for Managing SQL

Managing SQL in Java can sometimes feel like an irrelevant problem, due in no small part to the NoSQL movement. However, there is still a large body of applications that need the longevity and strengths of relational DBs. ElSql is a simple tool for managing SQL external to the application with a touch of DSL goodness. It is released under the Apache License v2.

OpenGamma Releases RouteMap.js, JavaScript URL-Mapping Library

Today we've started releasing some more of the components (like the FudgeMsg project which was our first release) that we've used to build up the OpenGamma Platform before its full, Open Source, release. The next of these is RouteMap.js, a URL mapping library for both client-side and server-side JavaScript programming.

The JSR-310 Experience

I first came across JSR-310 when I was looking for alternatives to the built-in java.util.Date/Calendar classes. At the time I was fresh from the pain of having to implement and evolve a market risk and analytics system that used those existing classes and was well aware of the problems. While plenty of other people have documented the problems with the existing framework, we should probably start by just reexamining the problems with the existing java.util.Date.
