OpenGamma Plans to Support Bloomberg's Open Market Data Initiative

1 February 2012

OpenGamma was founded in the belief that radical transparency can transform the financial services industry. Today’s announcement by Bloomberg, that they are releasing their data APIs under their Open Market Data Initiative, reinforces this trend.

Until now, organizations and individuals evaluating the OpenGamma Platform have found the last mile of data access a difficult one to surpass. While the OpenGamma Bloomberg Integration Module enables its commercial customers to integrate Bloomberg data into their OpenGamma Platform installations, the open source community at large, including developers who want to self-evaluate the platform, have so far been unable to do this.

Thanks to today’s announcement, OpenGamma will be releasing its Bloomberg integration module as part of the forthcoming 1.0 platform release, under our standard Apache 2.0 License.

OpenGamma’s CEO, Kirk Wylie, is excited about Bloomberg’s initiative: “For the first time, community members will be able to download and evaluate the OpenGamma Platform using real Bloomberg figures, instead of having to rely on mock data. It’s a big step, especially for the non-commercial users of our platform.”

OpenGamma is constantly evaluating its commercial vs. open source offerings and will be adjusting them in line with any possible changes in third-party policies (such as today’s initiative).
