OpenGamma is an Open Source financial technology startup. Founded in 2009, we specialize in analytics and risk management for individual traders all the way up to the largest Tier-1 banks. We are looking for a Senior JavaScript/Java Web Developer to join our small UI team. You will be working on our HTML5 live analytics engine and admin tools.

All developers have their choice of workstation and monitor (most people have 30" displays on their desktop). Everything we do is designed to help the team perform at the peak of their abilities. In addition, because we are an Open Source company, your work (attributed to you) will be visible to everyone in the world.

Core Competencies

  • Expert JavaScript (including HTML5), Java, HTTP, REST
  • Experience creating complex single page (Ajax/Comet) web applications (IE8+, latest versions of FF, Chrome, Safari)
  • Solid experience with at least one JavaScript framework
  • Well versed in performance optimization techniques
  • Thorough test experience, writing JavaScript unit tests and interface testing using Selenium or other
  • A solid understanding of HTML/CSS, beyond the basics
  • Ability to work with and maintain back-end Java-based REST (JAX-RS) and custom Ajax APIs and interact with existing Java APIs
  • Familiar with Java toolchain such as Ant/Ivy and a modern Java IDE (e.g. Eclipse, IntelliJ)

Education / Other Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of software design principles and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to clearly articulate complex design problems and solutions
  • Degree-level or equivalent experience, specializing in computer science or a similar discipline
  • Experience with common build environments and source control systems
  • You are self-motivated and self-directing

Extra Credit

  • Experience with three.js, or other JavaScript 3D / data visualisation tools
  • Experience with canvas, svg, web gl
  • Expert Git skills
